¡Olé! The Myth of Spanishness through Andalusia invites reflection on the construction of the image of Andalusia as a universal symbol of Spain. The exhibition explores how numerous Spanish and foreign artists have contributed to shaping, disseminating, reinterpreting, or challenging a collective imaginary associated with Andalusian folklore, from the Romantic travellers of the 19th century to the critical and contemporary perspectives of the 20th and 21th centuries.

The exhibition addresses themes such as exoticism, genre painting, national identity, and cultural stereotypes through a wide selection of paintings, photographs, and graphic works. ¡Olé! The Myth of Spanishness through Andalusia brings together works by artists such as Francisco de Goya, Joaquín Sorolla, Pablo Picasso, Ignacio Zuloaga, Ramón Casas, Kees van Dongen, Julio Romero de Torres, and Equipo Crónica, among others, offering a journey through the images that have helped define perceptions of Andalusia and, by extension, the Spanish imaginary, both within and beyond the country’s borders.
