This pyx, used to contain the consecrated Host, belongs to the group of enamels created in Limoges, known as opus Lemovicense. It is considered one of the few surviving examples of its type.
The iconographic programme unfolds across the base, which features four medallions depicting the figures of the Tetramorph, while the lid of the cup is decorated with four half-length angels enclosed within medallions. The decoration was created by engraving reserved figures against the enamelled background, and the work stands out for the exceptional technical quality of its execution.
