In 1938, Salvador Dalí had the opportunity to meet Sigmund Freud in London, where the Czech philosopher sought refuge during the war. This encounter serves as the key element to the exhibition El universo freudiano de Dalí, curated by Jaime Brihuega. Building on this meeting and Freud’s writings, which Dalí could read when he was young, the exhibition explores the profound influence that Freudian thinking exerted on the artist’s work.
El universo freudiano de Dalí aims to offer a renewed perspective on Dalí’s career under the lens of Freud’s thought. Works are displayed across several sections that follow the course of his life. The opening section introduces the complexity of the artist’s family environment, including a portrait of his sister Anna Maria from the Casacuberta Marsans Collection.
