Su esforzada b\u00fasqueda comenz\u00f3 deformando la realidad mediante la luz y culmin\u00f3 en sus composiciones mallorquinas disolviendo las formas en el color. La tensi\u00f3n creativa que vivi\u00f3 en este periodo motiv\u00f3 su ingreso en una instituci\u00f3n psiqui\u00e1trica y su posterior recuperaci\u00f3n en la localidad cercana de L\u2019Aleixar. All\u00ed continu\u00f3 la investigaci\u00f3n iniciada en Mallorca y pint\u00f3 sus mejores paisajes. Entre las pocas obras figurativas que pint\u00f3 en este periodo se cuenta El xerroteig, de la que Alexandre de Riquer dijo:<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dcd860a e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"dcd860a\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-035b132 elementor-widget__width-inherit elementor-widget-mobile__width-inherit elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"035b132\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Seg\u00fan Francesc Miralles, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">El xerroteig,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> junto con <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Les velles<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Els cantaires<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> y <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">El Vell petaca<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">conforman un retablo de figuras impresionante, sin los arrebatos de la <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00ab<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Espa\u00f1a negra<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00bb<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> pero tanto o m\u00e1s representativa que aquella. En estas obras solo el estallido de color \u2014que refleja el exultante estado de \u00e1nimo del artista\u2014 aten\u00faa la fuerza de unos personajes que deber\u00edan incluirse en una antolog\u00eda del mejor expresionismo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-102cec9 elementor-widget__width-inherit elementor-widget-mobile__width-inherit elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"102cec9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Francesc Miralles, Joaquim Mir, 1873-1940, Mapfre, Madrid, 2004, p. 108.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b5e71ee e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"b5e71ee\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b0bc4fc elementor-widget-mobile__width-inherit elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b0bc4fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u00abEl xerroteig es una de estas telas como solamente Mir puede presentarlas. Es de lo m\u00e1s genuinamente personal, es todo el arte de Mir con sus m\u00faltiples cualidades. El fondo del monte con sus tonos amoratados, viol\u00e1ceos, la profusa variaci\u00f3n de verdes, la rutilante vibraci\u00f3n de nuestro sol de oro.
