Through an examination of the institution\u2019s principal patronage initiatives, the research analyses how art became a tool of representation and legitimisation for the secular clergy, reinforcing its role as an agent of power within the city of Barcelona.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Presented at the international conference <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Abrils de l\u2019Hospital. Ospedali e confraternite in Europa (secoli XIII\u2013XVIII)<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the research draws upon documentation preserved in the Historical Archive of the City of Barcelona, the Historical Archive of Protocols of Barcelona, and the photographic archive of the Institut Amatller d\u2019Art Hisp\u00e0nic. The combined analysis of these sources has enabled a deeper understanding of three major projects commissioned by the hospital administration: the sculptural group depicting Saint Sever and praying clerics by Pere Oller (1434\u20131442), the altarpiece of Saint Sever produced with the participation of Dami\u00e0 Forment, Francesc Patau, Mart\u00ed D\u00edez de Liatzasolo, Pere Nunyes and Enrique Fernandes (1534\u20131541), and the sixteenth-century architectural remodelling of the church, including the construction of a new fa\u00e7ade and entrance space.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Beyond the formal and artistic analysis of these works, the lecture provided new insights into the strategies of institutional representation developed by the Hospital of sant Sever and the role that artistic commissions played in shaping its identity and public projection in Early Modern Barcelona.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-09cee38 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"09cee38\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5299d32 elementor-widget-mobile__width-inherit elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5299d32\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>About the Speaker&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Clara Villanueva Moreno is an art historian and coordinator of the Casacuberta Marsans Collection. She holds an MA in Medieval Cultures from the University of Barcelona, where she collaborates on the research project <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Romanica Excerpta Picta<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> (RECTA) with a study on the mural paintings and liturgical function of Santa Maria de Ta\u00fcll. She is also a research assistant for the project to inventory the corpus of medieval illuminated manuscripts in Catalonia, led by the Institut d\u2019Estudis Catalans.
